
Claire Hughes
Licensed Social Worker
Claire Hughes is a licensed social worker and accomplished public health instructor with over a decade of hands-on experience as a Community Health Worker (CHW). She holds a Master’s of Social Work from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and completed specialized fellowship training in trauma-informed behavioral health through SIU School of Medicine.
Currently pursuing a doctorate in Population Health, Claire’s research focuses on CHW workforce development. As an instructor and consultant with extensive expertise in CHW integration strategies, she has collaborated with agencies, clinics, health departments, and universities at both state and national levels. Claire is also a frequent presenter on trauma-informed care and policies, where she shares her knowledge to influence both practice and policy development.
Claire serves on the workforce development committee of the National Association of Community Health Workers (NACHW), sits on the board of the Illinois Rural Health Association, and co-chairs the Jackson County (IL) Healthy Living Coalition.
A lifelong resident of Southern Illinois, Claire is deeply committed to her community. She takes great pride in representing the region she calls home, balancing her professional endeavors with her roles as a dedicated partner and parent.
